FDM is a new and effective method of treating pain within the
musculoskeletal system. Developed by the American doctor for emergency medicine, Steven Typaldos D.O., the method is enjoying ever increasing popularity.
Up till now, many disorders and illnesses of the musculoskeletal system were difficult to treat and only healed very slowly but with FDM healing is greatly accelerated. This knowledge has been successfully employed to help many top sportsmen and women.

Thanks to FDM a patient with a supination trauma can run again after two or three treatments. An immobilization for several weeks is unnecessary.

Find it and fix it fast
• FDM is presently the most effective manual pain therapy.

• By means of body language and pain description the therapist is
immediately in the position to pinpoint the problem and help the patient with manual techniques.

• FDM is especially suitable for pain within the musculoskeletal system.

• Up till now many therapy resistant known illnesses (chronic pain
patients) can be successfully treated with FDM.

• Even after the first course therapists can already implement FDM in their practice.

• Due to the quick therapy success, FDM has become very popular
among athletes.

• Presently FDM is the fastest growing form of therapy.

Stephen Typaldos D.O. – – the founder of FDM – was employed as a doctor/osteotherapist.
Typaldos recognised that his patients always described their complaints with specific descriptions and gestures. With this in mind, he developed a unique diagnostic concept in which body language and description play a major role.
This specific diagnosis then leads to a harmonised therapy.

This new diagnostic and therapy concept is far more promising than
traditional methods of therapy. It is suspected that pain and malfunctions of the body are caused by various connective tissue (fascia distortion).
This has led to a number of treatment approaches for various illnesses.

Six typical fascial dysfunctions Stephen Typaldos D.O. discovered six different dysfunctions within the fascia of the musculoskeletal system:

1 Triggerband
2 Continuum Distorsion
3 Herniated triggerpoints
4 Cylinder distortion
5 Folding distortions
6 Tectonic fixations

When a triggerband is put under undue stress that leads to a rotation, splitting or calcification of the fascia the patient describes a searing pain and points with several fingers along a line.
This distortation can be treated by applying heavy pressure to the affected structure to derotate, to close or to decalcify it.

Continuum Distorsions

A continuum distortion is often the result of a injury in the transitional area between the fascia tissue and the bone. The body loses its ability to respond correctly to external forces in the transitional area. Patients will point with one finger at the point(s) of pain. By applying heavy pressure to this point we encourage the transitional area to be able to accept reasonable external forces again.

Folding Distortions

Compression or traction forces together with a rotation can cause pain deep within a joint and produce folding distortions. This results in not just a restriction of movement but also a feeling of instability. This can be corrected by traction and compression manipulation.

Herniated Triggerpoints

Herniated triggerpoints, injuries where tissues that normally lay underneath the fascia have bulged through the fascia and have become stuck there. The patient describes a dull as well as a tense
pain. By means of heavy pressure eon the HTP the tissue can be pressed into its original position.

Cylinder Distortions

Cylinder distortions are tangled coils of cylinder fascia. The ability of the fascia to uncoil and recoil is restricted and maybe even lost.
The body language of the patient with a cylinder distortion is extremely varied. Mostly they will run a flat hand over the affected area. The injury is also treated is by using a flat hand and applying pressure to the area.

Tectonic Fixations

Tectonic fixation is defined as a physiological alteration where the fascial surface has lost its ability to glide naturally. This is painless.
Patients often complain of a complete restriction of movement. The treatment of large joints that have indications of tectonic
fixations is very strenuous for the therapist and patient.
